Research
Our research activities are currently centered around two main topics:
i) the greenhouse gas (CO2, CH4 and N2O), H2O and energy exchange of mountain grassland ecosystems as affected by land use and climate, and
ii) the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from mountain grasslands.
To study these topics we use a range of experimental methods and modelling approaches. Most of these are based on micrometeorological theory, but we also employ methods and use theory from the fields of plant ecology, ecophysiology, biochemistry and soil physics.
Our study sites are situated mainly in Tyrol/Austria, where we study various grassland ecosystems. Within the frame of collaborations we conduct research also at two other sites - the Mojave Desert Global Change Facility (MGCF) in Nevada/USA and the Järvselja forest (link) in Estonia.
